Welch Gate Guest House has a wealth of history, built in the early 1600's, most of its trading life was as a Posting House and Inn formerly known as the Old Pack Horse. It was a hive of activity at the heart of this Georgian town, stage coaches would enter the rear of the premises via double white gates and drop welcome guests off for overnight stays before proceeding on their journey. Mail was delivered at this time, and ales and cider were brewed on the premises. Structural features include a wealth of oak beams which were salvaged from the wreck of the Spanish Armada. We moved here in 1985 and over the years have painstakingly renovated this magnificent building to its former glory for many visitors to savour and enjoy.
